Children’s Day 2019: Google dedicates a doodle, Know all about it

  • First prime minister of independent India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday is celebrated as children’s day in India.
  • Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, and died on May 27, 1964. The PM worked passionately for the welfare of children and youngsters after independence.
  • Children used to call him ‘Chacha Nehru’ because of his fondness with the children.
  • Nehru was born on Allahabad city of British India to father Motilal Nehru, a renowned barrister and mother Swaeuprani Thussu.
  • Nehru described his childhood as a “sheltered and uneventful one”. He received his initial education at home under the governance of his father and tutors.
  • He has been involved in movements like Home Rule Movement voiced by Anne Besant.
  • Nehru led the Non-cooperation Movement in 1929 and was also arrested and charged for anti-governmental activities.
  • Former Bolivian Prez Evo Morales arrives in Mexico to take up political asylum

Ex-President of Bolivia Evo Morales arrived in Mexico to take up the political asylum, vowing to continue the struggle.

  • He had resigned amid mounting protests over his fraud-stained re-election to a fourth term on October 20th.
  • He thanked President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of Mexico for saving his life.
  • He was forced to step down after losing the backing of the military and police amid weeks of increasingly violent protests over his constitutionally questionable re-election

Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid arrived in Nepal on four-day visit

  • President of Bangladesh Md. Abdul Hamid is on a four day visit to Nepal. On first day of his visit, Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali paid a courtesy call on Bangladeshi President in Kathmandu last evening.
  • During the meeting, matters pertaining to cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, energy, connectivity, waterways, aviation, education, transportation and agriculture were discussed. Both the leaders also shared views on enhancing cooperation on matters of regional and global interests, including climate change.
  • President of Bangladesh also visited famous Bhaktapur Durbar Square and observed with interest the archaeological and historical sites.
  • President Hamid is scheduled to meet his Nepalese counterpart Bidya Devi Bhandari. President of Nepal will also host a Banquet in his honour.
  • Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and Chairperson of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina will pay courtesy call on Bangladeshi President. Nepal President Hamid will also visit Pokhara.
Former Bolivian President Evo Morales arrives in Mexico to take up political asylum
  • Ex-President of Bolivia Evo Morales arrived in Mexico on 12 November, 2019 to take up political asylum, vowing to continue the struggle.
  • He had resigned amid mounting protests over his fraud-stained re-election to a fourth term on October 20th .
  • He vowed to remain in politics, saying, his flight into exile would not be the end of the story.
  • Morales, 60, led Bolivia for more than 13 years. He was a member of the “pink tide” of leftist leaders who held sway across much of Latin America in the 2000s.
  • He was, however, forced to step down after losing the backing of the military and police amid weeks of increasingly violent protests over his constitutionally questionable re-election.
  • The constitutional next-in-line, deputy senate speaker Jeanine Anez, has pledged to call fresh elections.

Supreme Court refers Sabarimala review petitions to larger 7-judge bench

• The Supreme Court has referred the Sabarimala review petitions to a larger 7-judge bench. The verdict was delivered by 3:2 majority with three judges in favour including the CJI and Justices AM Khanwilkar and Indu Malhotra and two Judges in dissent. Justices DY Chandrachud and RF Nariman gave their dissent to the decision saying that when a judgment is declared, it is final.

Supreme Court dismisses Rafale review petitions


• The Supreme Court has dismissed all Rafale review petitions, declining an independent probe into corruption allegations in the Union Government’s Rafale deal. The apex court dismissed the petitions saying that they lacked merit.  

Delhi Pollution: All Delhi schools to be shut till November 15
• All schools in Delhi will remain closed till November 15 due to the worsening air pollution level. The air quality in the capital has dipped for the third time this season forcing the government to take emergency steps to tackle the issue.

Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s President, to be chief guest at Republic Day 2020
• Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will be the chief guest at India's Republic Day celebrations in January 2020. The Brazilian President agreed to the same during his bilateral talks with PM Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit 2019.

Chandrayaan-3: ISRO’s another bid to land on Moon


• ISRO plans to send yet another mission to the moon, Chandrayaan-3. The moon mission is expected to comprise just a lander and a rover, as the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter is functioning perfectly. ISRO is expected to begin work on the programme by November 2020.

World Diabetes Day 2019 observed
• World Diabetes Day is observed every year on November 14 to make people aware of diabetes.
• This year’s theme for Diabetes Day is – Family and Diabetes’. It became an official UN day in 2006.
• Diabetes is a metabolic and chronic disease that includes an elevated level of blood glucose and loss of insulin production by the body.

Ravi Prakash wins BRICS Young Innovator Award
• India’s Ravi Prakash has won the BRICS-Young Innovator Prize. The winner of this award gets USD 25,000.
• He has been given this award for the invention of the small and cheap 'Milk Chilling Unit'. This innovation is useful for small and economical weaken farmers.
• The BRICS-Young Innovator Prize is given to a young researcher and entrepreneur whose innovation will impact the lives of the people of BRICS countries

Uttar Pradesh Govt launches e-Ganna app
• UP government has launched a web portal and a mobile app, e-Ganna, for sugarcane farmers. Now, farmers can get cane supply slip online through this app.
• The e-Ganna app and web portal will ensure transparency between farmers and the government.
• e-Ganna portal will also help in eliminating cane mafia and strengthening cane development societies
